Questions on school costs and the use of funds?

As Bond and Override conversations happen across districts, questions on school costs and the use of funds always surface. This information from Chuck Essigs might help:

“A number of questions have recently been raised about administrative costs for Arizona school districts. The 2018 Annual Survey of School System Finances from the U.S. Census Bureau annually collects school funding and spending information from every state for this report. The 2018 report is the latest report available. Table 8 of that report looks at “Per Pupil Amounts for Current Spending of Public Elementary-Secondary School Systems by State. That report listed U.S. average spending for general administration and school administration at $945 per pupil with Arizona spending per pupil for general administration and school administration at $539. Arizona ranked 50th in per pupil spending for administration among the 50 states. Yes, 49 states spent more per pupil on administration than Arizona. Arizona spending per pupil for administration was at 57% of the U.S. average.” — Chuck Essigs/AASBO – AZ Association of School Business Officials
